The house is located on Battery street, within the baroque walled city of Valletta. Perched on St Anthony's bastion, the house commands spectacular views over the Grand Harbour. The key, since time immemorial, to Malta's strategic importance, this harbour was made famous once again during the second world war when it was home to the British Empire's Mediterranean fleet. Though on the water's edge, Battery street is also a stone's throw from the main historical attractions within this World Heritage city. The historic capital city of Valletta is a cultural gem packed with baroque churches, museums, auberges and other architectural masterpieces. Built by the Grand Master La Vallette following his victory over the Ottomans in the Great Siege of 1565, this city is a monument to the splendour of a bygone age when the aristocratic order of the Knights of St John ruled the island of Malta. Valletta is alive with bars, restaurants and cafe's and there is enough culture to keep the keenest vulture occupied for several holidays. However, the rest of Malta is also well worth exploring and can be reached easily from Valletta either by car or by bus (the main bus station is in Valletta).
